KAREMA HARRIS, Executive DirectorMs. Karema Harris has nearly 25 years of diversified experience in program design, marketing and the development of strategic plans. As Executive Director, she is charged with implementation of the strategic goals and objectives of FLIBS, working with the organization's Board to fulfill its governance functions, and giving direction and leadership toward the achievement of the FLIBS's philosophy and mission. A veteran of international relations, Ms. Harris has worked in both the private and public sectors in a management capacity for ADG Business and Governmental Consultants, the Florida Department of State, Enterprise Florida, and the Florida Department of Commerce. She has a Master of Science in International Affairs from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. With her vast and extensive management experience in the area of international affairs, she has been instrumental in successful collaborations with public and private sector entities committed to executing innovative economic, cultural, educational and diplomatic exchanges which helped to broaden Florida's status internationally. Ms. Harris served as Florida's Chief Protocol Officer (1999-2003) where she developed the first Office of Protocol and organized numerous private and official meetings with heads of state, foreign ambassadors and trade ministers from around the globe. She directed substantive exchanges involving the State of Florida and more than 60 nations, carrying out diplomatic objectives with members of Florida's Consular Corps (ranked the 4th largest in the nation). She is married to Peter Harris and they are the proud parents of two children. Her volunteer service includes work as a Trustee for Florida House, the state's 'embassy' in Washington, DC. Ms. Harris serves on the Florida State University Alumni Association National Board of Directors where she is a lifetime member and Secretary of the Executive Committee. KAREN BROWN, Governmental Affairs LiaisonIn addition to being the Governmental Affairs Liaison for the Florida League of IB Schools, Karen T. Brown is also the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Coordinator for Rutherford High School in Panama City Florida. She is a proud FSU alumnus holding a Bachelor's degree in Social Science Education. Prior to becoming an IB Coordinator in 1999, Karen taught Social Studies in the IB and AP programs at Rutherford High School for 10 years. As a passionate IB Coordinator, Karen believes in sharing her experience and enthusiasm with other educators. She is an IB Workshop Leader in both Counseling and Coordination. Since 2005 she has also served as an authorization site visitor for IB in North America. In addition, Karen has held a Clinical Education Trainer certificate for the State of Florida since 1993 and has served on numerous state and local educational committees. Since becoming an IB Coordinator, Karen has been very involved in the Florida League of IB Schools. She is a past President and Executive Board member and presently serves as the Chair of the Curriculum Committee. She also serves as a member of the Budget Committee. When she is not with her IB family, Karen enjoys spending time with her husband Michael and sons, Wesley and William. |
