History and Purpose

The first Florida schools to receive International Baccalaureate Authorization were: St. Petersburg High School in St. Petersburg, Stanton College Preparatory High School in Jacksonville, and Eastside High School in Gainesville. The authorizations were granted on March 10, 1983. Immediately, the three IB Coordinators planned a meeting, thus from the very beginning of the IB in Florida, IB Coordinators have been working in unison to promote the IB
program.

Soon, a Constitution and By Laws
were adopted and submitted to
the Secretary of State for a
Charter of Incorporation. The
charter was granted on July 18,
1988. This charter states that
FLIBS is organized exclusively
for charitable and educational
purposes within the meaning of
Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code and as a Non-profit
Corporation in the State of
Florida.
